(New York, N.Y.) - QBE has awarded a $5,000 grant to Southwest
Boston Community Development Corp., a nonprofit organization based
in Boston's Hyde Park and Roslindale neighborhoods.
According to QBE President and Chief Executive Officer John
Rumpler, the grant is being given to further the QBE Foundation's
mission of supporting vocational opportunities and helping people
live more independently, successfully and productively. "Without
the assistance of this fantastic organization, people may not be
able to make strides toward helping themselves," he said. "We are
delighted our foundation grant will make a positive impact."
Southwest Boston Community Development provides a variety of
services, including developing affordable housing for low- and
moderate-income people and strengthening neighborhoods' commercial
bases. The QBE grant is earmarked for the organization's "Green
Team," which employs neighborhood youth while building concrete
transferable skills such as landscaping, community outreach and
public speaking. The program also promotes job readiness through
work on areas including resume development, interviewing skills and
basic financial education. The Green Team program provides
environmental education and exposure to academic and career
opportunities in environmental sustainability, and promotes
stewardship of local urban wilds and wetlands.
