QBE presents United Way of Dane County with $75,000 grant

(Sun Prairie) - The QBE Divisional Foundation has awarded a $75,000 grant to United Way of Dane County.

According to Senior Vice President - Central Region Rich Kalina, United Way of Dane County provides services that fit well with the foundation mission. The foundation is dedicated to supporting vocational opportunities around the world through organizations that help people live more independently, successfully and productively.

"United Way does a phenomenal job in Dane County, connecting to the community and connecting to businesses," he said. "United Way's focus on education and providing work opportunities is a great fit with our goals at the foundation."

United Way identifies and addresses the most urgent problems facing Dane County. Among other efforts, United Way seeks to improve financial stability in the community by increasing the numbers of people getting and keeping jobs, as well as those who earn high school diplomas, attend technical college and participate in apprenticeship programs.

United Way of Dane County President and CEO Leslie Ann Howard said the grant will continue progress on the community's seven Agenda for Change goals, all focused on changing lives in the areas of education, safety and health. "Our strategic focus and QBE Foundation's strategic focus are in tight alignment," she said. "Thanks to QBE's incredible generosity and the power of QBE employees' volunteerism, we will continue to deliver measurable results in areas such as academic achievement and reducing family homelessness."

United Way of Dane County is one of 10 charities receiving grants from QBE in 2011. More than 200 charities providing vocational services in QBE's local communities were nominated and voted on by employees in 143 offices across the country.
